Shan Hui 山犭军.jpg

In the mountains1 there lives a beast that resembles an ordinary dog but with a human-like face. It is particularly skilled at throwing2 things and laughs whenever it sees a human. It moves like the wind and to see one means a great storm is imminent.

2 Pelting or hurling things with intent to hurt

The second Chinese character in this beast's name no longer exists. It is made up of the radical "犭" (quǎn), and the radical "军" (jūn), that when placed together create a character that is pronounced "huī".
